Sundial House

The Sundial House sits at the edge of the Backcountry Wilderness Area and offers a panorama of everything from downtown Denver to Longs Peak, Pikes Peak, and the 8,200 acres of Backcountry Wilderness Area. The Sundial House is a luxurious retreat exclusively for Backcountry members and their guests to enjoy. The Sundial House is the hub of our community. Residents may enjoy a restaurant meal at Indulge, and beverages at Pikes Pub and Lounge. Residents can relax on the dramatic Outdoor Terrace that wraps around the southern side of the Sundial House providing numerous seating areas and a fire pit to enjoy the incredible views. A resort-like pool furthers the outdoor experience for residents and offers unparalleled views of the southwest portion of the front range. Health and wellness facilities include message/treatment rooms, exercise equipment, and a fitness and movement studio. The Sundial House offers distinctive areas for gatherings of all kinds including private events, business meetings, member club activities, and casual conversations.

Just steps from the Sundial House, the community amphitheater’s natural stone seating cascades down to a performance stage framed by stunning views of the 8,200-acre Backcountry Wilderness Area. The amphitheater plays host to outdoor yoga and health-based classes, family movie nights, and professional concerts.

Backcountry plans to convert the Discovery Center from developer office space to a community amenity that will contain a coffee shop and café with gathering spaces and private offices available for resident use. Please watch for updates on grand opening events as construction is nearing completion.

Fitness Center

The beautiful Backcountry Fitness Center features a state-of-the-art weight room, movement studio, and locker rooms. The Fitness Center is open during Sundial House hours of operation and access is included in your monthly assessment.

Gym and Movement Room areas do not require a reservation and may be used as available.

Fitness Services
The Backcountry Association is proud to host a variety of fitness services for the use of our Members.  Please note that these fitness services are not included in your Association assessments, and may incur an additional fee.

WORKOUT WITH KIM

Small group fitness trainings are available weekly at the Sundial House.  The workouts include cardio, resistance, balance, flexibility and core training.  Exercises are tailored to meet each individual’s fitness needs and proper form is emphasized to prevent injuries and faulty movement patterns.  If you’re interested in learning more about the class and scheduling a movement assessment, please contact the Backcountry Fitness Instructor, Kim Merkel de Fernandez at  wildirisrecreation@comcast.net or by phone 303-909-7977.  New members are always welcome!

ENTRANCES

Main Entrance – 10420 Backcountry Drive (Located at the intersection of Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Broadway)
East Entrance – Located at the intersection of Wildcat Reserve Parkway and Skydance Drive on the northeast side of the Backcountry community.

TRANSPONDERS – Residents can purchase transponders at the Sundial House.
Window sticker transponders may be purchased for $20.00 (check) / $25.00 (credit card)
License plate transponders may be purchased for $40.00 (check) / $45.00 (credit card)

The following information must be provided at time of purchasing transponders:

  • Homeowner Name
  • Homeowner Address
  • Vehicle Make, Model, Year, Color
  • License Plate Number and State



GATEHOUSE
Members expecting visitors may notify the gatehouse by emailing Backcountry Association Gatehouse at backcountrygatehouse@gmail.com or by calling 303-471-0100.

Homeowners can issue a QR Code to be shared with guests in advance of their arrival to Backcountry. To create a QR Code, please sign in as a resident to access instructions within the document folder located on the Portal.

Parks & Trails

The Backcountry trail system (ACRES) allows resident access to ponds and the six parks located throughout the community. The South Rim Trails, 467 acres of the 8,200-acre Backcountry Wilderness Area, expand the Backcountry living space for active members interested in hiking, biking and snowshoeing.

Pikes Pub and Lounge

Pikes Pub and Lounge is an exclusive wine bar and bistro for Backcountry Members and their guests.

The pub and restaurant are operated by our restaurant partner Indulge.

Join us for delicious food Thursday through Saturday evenings!

Enjoy Happy Hour every Friday and Saturday from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM

Live Music and entertainment is scheduled twice per month – watch the community calendar and announcements for details.  

Reservations are not required.

Note: The Indulge kitchen closes at 8 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings.

Pool

Hours of Operation

The Backcountry Pool is open seven days a week from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM beginning Memorial Day weekend, and closes for the season on Labor Day.

Lap Swim

The Lap Pool will be open to Members for early-morning enjoyment beginning at 6:00 AM Monday – Friday and at 7:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday.

Members will need to check in and out with the front desk of the Sundial House. You will be asked to sign in and leave your Backcountry ID before receiving a key to the pool. Once you have completed your swim, please check back in with the front desk to sign out, return your key and pickup your ID.  Please note lifeguards are not on duty during lap swim hours.

Helpful Information

Homeowners can view the Backcountry Association Sundial House and Pool Facility Rules and Regulations on the Resident Portal or by viewing on the Member Services > Resources tab.

Backcountry Association follows the American Red Cross guidelines on lightning safety for outdoor pools. The American Red Cross guidelines can be viewed on the Resident Portal. Pool closures will be announced on the Backcountry Association website and on a recorded message when calling the Sundial House at 303-346-2800.
